Directions for Paper Monsters

If you were one of the folks who stopped by my table at SPX this past weekend and received a sheet of Paper Monsters, below are the directions to put them together. It's really easy so have fun!

1) Cut the character out of the sheet with an X-acto blade or scissors.

2) Lightly run a blade or paper clip over the lines indicated in the picture below ( Black dashed lines). Be careful not to cut through the paper. Scoring these lines will make your toy easier to fold and assemble.

3) Cut through the lines indacted in the picture below. These lines are for the arms to go through.

4) Fold your character on the scored lines to make a rectangle.

5) Push arms through slits. If you need to , push a blade through the arm slits and wiggle it back and forth to widen the openings. This will make it easier to push the arms through. Make sure the arms are facing to the front of your character. Use craft scissors to cut off the ends of the arms to look like fingers if you want to.

6) Use glue on the folds indicated below. Glue A to the inside of B and C to the inside of D.

Let the glue dry and then you'll have a new friend to take with you to parties and social events!

New Cat in Town

There's a new cat in town and he goes by Tomcat Samurai! On Friday, June 19, I received an e-mail from Mark E Rogers. Mr Rogers is the creator of a comic that saw several books published in the late 80's and 90's called Samurai Cat. Below is the e-mail.

Are you aware that I came up with a character called Samurai Cat, and that TOR published six books in the series? That Marvel did adaptations? You should knock this stuff off now.
Mark E. Rogers

To which I replied:

Mr Rogers

When I published issue #1 I was not aware that there had been a series of Samurai Cat books published. It wasn't until later on that someone at a convention mentioned to me that there was a series called Samurai Cat in the 80's and 90's. I researched the character and figured since the characters don't look anything a like and my book is called "Tail of the Samurai Cat" there wouldn't be a problem. If I am infringing on trademarks that you hold and my comic is causing undo stress to you personally I will change the title of the book and character in the hope that this will solve any problems. I understand your position in wanting to protect your property and certainly do not want to go into any legal situations over an 8 page photocopied comic that serves as only a hobby for me.

With Respect

Jim Coon

I have yet to receive a response from Mr. Rogers but hope that changing the title of my book will be a satisfactory solution to him.

New Comic Display

I made this comic stand up this weekend. I'm naming her Daisy Dean and plan on adding a word balloon that says "Check THESE out! They're NEW!" My wife thinks I'm a PIG!!!

Professor Badger's Cabinet of Curiosities

Back in February of this year I met Professor Badger and his able bodied assistant Elle. The professor is the curator of a traveling side show  appropriately named "Professor Badger's Cabinet of Curiosities". The show consisted of a collection of skulls and pickled punks. Hairs of dead presidents and a black widow spider. To say I was impressed is an understatement. I told the Professor that I was going to write and draw a comic about him and Elle and he said " You need to get a job!"
So, with the Professor's ringing endorsement I proudly present the first issue of Professor Badger's Cabinet of Curiosities: Search for the Yeti's Balls! You can read the first 4 pages at my facebook page here or go to my etsy store and buy a copy for yourself! You can also visit the Professor online at www.EightCornerGlobe.com.

Dark Dopey

My daughter and I were playing with a Disney Princess set today and one of the characters in the set was Dopey from Snow White. My mind clicked and I began to think, what if Dopey were the only dwarf left? What if all the other dwarves passed away and Dopey was left alone? What would his story be? Would he end up old and bitter? Dark? Here's a sketch I did. Maybe there's a story there someday.
